I think the anime works best as a way to get people interested in the story, but as far as feeling complete goes, it feels very rushed and it's pretty much required you play the games to get the full story. It was actually the anime that got me into the games. Umineko no Naku Koro ni (when the seagulls cry) is a japanese murder mystery, POSSIBLY FANTASY (ill get to this) visual novel series, the 1st part of which was adapted into an anime in 2009 (that was not so well received huhu).
